Millennium Actress movie review animated by Madhouse and published by Dreamworks
The goal of my blog is to share the joy and love I have for unknown comics, unknown animation and underground artists.
Today we are looking at an animated movie called "Millennium Actress" created by Madhouse and published in the United States by Dreamworks Studios.
Now this movie was directed by Satoshi Kon and he had this tendency of being insanely creative with movie formats and this movie is not an exception. You will be all over the place with this movie and you will enjoy every moment of it. It is about a director trying to get an interview with a famous actress who has been out of the lime light for years and she is living in seclusion. It is mainly through the point of view of the actress but the director and camera man keep it secure in some sort of realism in the sense that the story is being told to them. The story will bounce between movie sets and real life and it is told in a way to blend both concepts.
The story is very compelling and it will suck you in right away. It builds up nicely and has some dynamic twists that you would appreciate. This movie is fun for the whole family and it has a great re-watch value. This is one of those few movies that I would actually recommend buying instead of renting. I would put this movie on par with anything else that Kon-san made but if you need any more convincing, keep in mind that the movie that beat this in the awards was Spirited Away and that was a "barely."
