The goal of my blog is to share the joy and love I have for unknown comics, unknown animation and underground artists.
Today we are looking at an animated movie called "Summer Wars" created by Mad House and published in the United States by Funimation.
The dvd that we are looking at is an award winning movie and has been through numerous international film festivals. It was animated and created by Madhouse and brought to the United States by Funimation. The movie was directed by Mamoru Hosoda (the same one who directed Digimon the movie) and it shares so many themes with his previous works. It is about artificial intelligence running amok and they through in the story of old families and making things right. It is a great movie and it flows very well and it actually does not rely to much on music which is very unique.
This movie is about a program that we use to run everything in the world from stop lights to water systems. It is accessible to everyone and it acts like a social media app / Facebook. The concept is that an A.I. is let loose that steals accounts and causes chaos and is about the efforts of a boy and girl who are trying their best to stop it and keep her family together for a special event.
Now the art work is very similar to the 2000s animation craze but it is very similar to Digimon the movie. It looks great and the art work is very well planned out. The action is there as well. The story's characters are very believable and they are fleshed out nicely. The lack of music in most of the movie is interesting but it is nice to see something fresh.
The story is very compelling and it will suck you in. It is a very intriguing theme but it gives off the Digimon movie vib very strongly if you have seen that before. It is great to see more work by Hosoda-san but I have a feeling that all the positive reviews are from people who have not seen his previous works. It feels a little redundant but it is still a great movie to watch and will fill you with family pride.
Score time:
Art: 7/ 10
Story: 6 / 10
Flow of movie: 6 / 10
Impression after reading: fun watch
